For a long time I have embarked on the path of ecological transition, made of ups and downs. The training first and then the active learning path helped me to open my eyes and see further ahead, in a wider and more holistic way. However, better understanding where humankind is going has also opened the doors to new sorrow. One of the biggest concernings I have is to learn that we are in the phase of mass extinction. Before even talking about that, however, we need to take a step back to the origin of Life on Earth, which is why this large-format watercolor series was born.
I want here to exalt the Element that generates, under the action of the Sun, Life on our Blue Planet: Water.
The planet is covered mostly by water, hence the idea of renaming it, even if only for a short moment.
In the oceans, Life is continuously creating, we speak about the same Life that generated us as a species. It is like a mother who never stops giving birth, even while She is so systematically attacked by humans.
And here it comes, the picture that keeps me sleepless: a mother who has billions of children, and is surrounded by them and loves them all, while all around her the massacre goes on, until she stops giving birth. That is the Extinction: the end of birth .. This is the scenario of which mankind should feel guilty and stop giving hits on nature.
By celebrating the element water, its colors, the reflections, the lights in my works, I hope to arouse some sensitivity in the audience that looks at them. And if that doesn't help, I hope through these works to redeem my integrity, by declaring the cultural distance of me versus that ruleless super-predator who is called White man.
